The Puerto Rico Convention District is in a 113-acre area located in the heart of San Juan. It represents the transformation of the former site of the Miramar Naval and Coast Guard Base into a new community with residential areas, offices, commercial space, entertainment venues, as well as civic and cultural activities facilities.
It is the home to the Puerto Rico Convention Center, the largest and most technologically advanced Convention Center in the Caribbean. This in itself places Puerto Rico in a class of its own. The Puerto Rico Convention Center is a 580,000 sq. ft. architectural masterpiece, featuring a 152,700 sq. ft. exhibition hall, the largest ballroom in the Caribbean with 40,000 sq. ft. and an additional 36,200 sq. ft. of meeting rooms. The Convention Center has had over 2.3 million visitors in just 5 years, includes an advanced rail system and has other infrastructural developments underway.
The Convention District, also boasts the Puerto Rico Coliseum, a multi-purpose, avant-garde facility offering seating for 18,000 people with state-of-the-art sound, lighting, acoustic and theatrical systems. Recently the Coliseum of Puerto Rico was reviewed as one of the most active in terms of ticket sales, exceeding Staples Center in Los Angeles and Wembley Arena in London, according to Pollstar magazine.
A new project for the revitalization of San Juan’s bay area, it has transformed a 21-block area into an entire neighborhood that features shopping, dining, hotels, housing, parks, trails, and a stunning waterfront esplanade.
